UNIPORT/ALUU KILLINGS WAS A SETUP

By Toju Ajuyah
We have had versions of the story of the ALUU4 incidence, and each of them was either biased against the victims or in their favor. This is the wider version of what really happened.
Nigeria is facing serious insecurity such that people are no longer confident in the system. Back then in my university, a thief who had terrorized the School for years was caught red handed, and at the end of the day he went home a free man. Occurrences as this has forced victims of such incidence to take action, since the government refuses to do anything about it. This has led to the creation of vigilante groups in different parts of the country.
Secondly, it is now a thing of pride for students to stay off campus, but this is an abnormally. Government has refused to equipped schools with sufficient and conducive hostel accommodation, and as a result students stay off campus, and there is inadequate and sometimes lack of security in campus and off campus locations.
The government has also failed to provide adequate jobs for the people of this country, so people find every means to get themselves busy in order to cater for their needs and feed their family. This method includes getting a job as a vigilante in a community. A man who works 8-5 and paid reasonably would not have the time and strength to stay awake all through the night as a vigilante when we have the police for that.
When you put all these together you get ALUU4 disaster.
I strongly believe in 'think of what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you' principle, but the fact remains that when the government fails things like this are bound to happen. Human being have an animalistic nature which ought to be guided by few elected persons called the government, and when they fail, that animal nature is bound to be revealed.
In this story, the killer and the victims both tried to do for themselves what the government failed to (as regards accommodation, security and job) which resulted in the lawless and dastardly act.
P.S. this is not the first time such a thing is happeno
Ing, the only reason for the loud outcry is that the victims were in an environment where people had phones that could video and access the web, a lot of others (some innocent) have died this way.
The government must act now to prevent a lawless society, but know that those in government were once mere citizens, if you as a citizen cannot do anything (legal) about it, in order to help build the nation, you are just as 'good' as the government we are talking about, who set up the foundation for this whole thing.
