When John Terry was handed Chelsea's captain's arm band in 2004 by the special one - Jose Mourinho, Terry was ecstatic in showing his appreciation and even when Steve McClaren named him skipper of the three lions after David Beckham's resignation following the 2006 World Cup, JT not only thanked him but also extended the gratitude to his then Chelsea boss, claiming that Mourinho making him Captain of Chelsea was instrumental to the choice of him leading England and went further to say that it had been his dream to captain England, so one would have felt that after getting his life dream fulfilled he would stop at nothing to protect it but the leadership of JT has always left much to be desired both for club and country.
On the National level, in 2010 revelations emanated from tabloids about Terry's extra marital affairs with former girlfriend of his team mate, Ashley Cole which led to the blues skipper being striped of England Captaincy.
After some years JT got it back but couldn't control his remarks as he racially abused Aston Ferdinand early this year which made the FA stripped him off the captaincy for the second time.
On Club level, Terry's use of captain powers cost Chelsea a Champion;s league trophy in that cold night in Moscow. after he stepped out to take Drogba's final and decisive penalty kick (after the Ivorian was sent off), which he played awkwardly and lost even though he knew he hadn't taken a penalty kick all his career.
He almost did a repeat last season when his senseless off the ball kick of a Barcelona's player during the semi finals got him sent off and consequently ruled him out of the all important final against Bayern in Germany. A match where he would have guided his lads to victory as captain, he was absent as a result of his stupid action. Thankfully, Drogba was available this time to take another final and decisive penalty which he converted with all precision and won the most wanted prize for Chelsea with his very last kick of the ball for the blues.
Now DiMatteo has revealed that this time Chelsea is going to take disciplenary measures against the captain (referring to JT's racial abuse charge and four match ban) but when asked if the former England captain will be stripped of the Captaincy, the Champoin's league winning manager said "We do not discuss publicly disciplenary matters against our players, they remain confidential, you will have to wait and see."
