NIGERIA FLOODS: MR PRESIDENT WE DON'T NEED YOUR MILLIONS

I don't know what Jennifer Lopez went through before she sang ‘My
love don’t cost a thing’ but she was complaining about her man, who
felt giving out cash and gifts was enough to make JLo feel loved.
where as she needed attention, presence and concern.
Today the Nigerian People seem to be singing the same song though in
another language. With some states experiencing flooding currently.
Yesterday, Mr President  - Dr Goodluck Jonathan in his nationwide
broadcast concerning the flood, set up a Committee headed by Aliko
Dangote to raise funds for flooded areas, the President also
categorized the affected states, approving the sum of 13 .3 billion
naira to states and 4.3 billion naira to federal government agencies;
Group A comprising of Oyo, Kogi< Benue, Adamawa, Plateau, Delta<
Bayelsa and Anambra to get 500 Million Naira, Group B which includes
Lagos, Edo, Kano, Imo and 7 other states were allocated 400 million
naira, in the category  C we have Ondo, Rivers, Katsina, Abia and four
other states with 300 million naira, leaving Kebbi, Enugu, Akwa Ibom
and 7 other states in category D for 250 million naira.
While NEMA gets 1.1billion naira, Ministry of environment gets 350
million naira, Ministry of works gets 2.6 billion naira and the
technical committee on flood impact assessment gets 100million naira.
Having done so, the Bayelsa born Ph.D holder feels he has attended to
the flood issue whereas Nigerian are actually tired of being promised
money that they don’t see at work, they are tired of countless and
ineffective committees, they actually want more attention, they want a
Government that will set up committees ahead of disasters and not
after the did is done, they want a Government that will immediately
come out to relieve them (the stranded once in flooded areas) in times
like these and not allocate another set of hundreds of millions
probably going into the pockets of some individuals, they want a
Government that cares for its people and they want a government that
will be present in times of trouble.
